Schools Share the Responsibility; They Occupy 1/3rd of Childhood
Children spend roughly 6 - 8 hours a day, five days a week, during most of their youth in school - accumulating nearly a third of their waking life. That institutional time isn’t just about academics - it’s where emotional resilience is nurtured or ignored. With rising academic pressure, early exposure to adult themes and even suicide risks among school-aged children, schools must become proactive agents of mental well‑being, along with parents. And globally, schools have been investing in movement, mindfulness and structured fitness as core education. It’s time our schools do it too.
Our quarterly bulletin is a way to approach you with stories and updates from the world of holistic education, where structured sports and physical education is playing a key role - aligned with NEP mandates. And with a pertinent question - What are you doing today that supports your students’ mental and physical health?

Schools can now assess their
sports programs with the Free School Sports Index Audit
tool - a simple, structured framework designed to highlight strengths and uncover gaps.
The tool evaluates five critical areas that shape how students experience play and
sports:
- Time: Are enough PE
periods and play opportunities provided?
- Space: Does your
infrastructure support multiple, diverse activities?
- Child: Are student
needs, interests and aspirations being met?
- Facilitator: Do you
have the right number of trained PE teachers?
- Content: Is your
curriculum inclusive, engaging and well-equipped?
