Dear School Leaders,
Wishing you a bright, active, playful 2026! We are excited to bring you
Building Active School Culture Through Play in AY 2026–27, a refreshed
edition of our EduSports bulletin.
From the Hon’ble PM, Shri Narendra Modi, encouraging India’s Women’s Cricket
World Cup champions to
visit schools and inspire children to play
,
to the state governments of Maharashtra and Karnataka mandating PE as a
compulsory component in schools, one message is clear:
Sports & PE are no longer “extras,” but essential levers of holistic education of
children.' Building Active School Culture Through Play
in AY 2026-27' brings this idea to the forefront.
|
|
|
|
Curated especially for school leaders and educators,
this edition aims to
empower them to build healthier, happier and more active student communities. Have a
good read!
With warm regards,

1. Top quick DIY tools school leaders are using to strengthen their PE program for 2026–27
|
|
Whether enhancing an existing PE & sports program or building one from scratch, the first
step is to understand the current program’s standing. A clear view of strengths and gaps
can help school leaders make focused improvements for students, whilst meeting the expectations
of parents who are increasingly aware of the importance of health and well-being. Here are some
practical resources for the same:

2. Why we invested in structured physical education - School leaders’ POV
|
|
School leaders are increasingly prioritising sports & PE
programs that go beyond NEP and NCF compliance to
deliver measurable outcomes in fitness, motor skills
and behaviour. There is also a clear shift towards
reducing operational load among school staff through
streamlined planning, delivery, assessment, and
monitoring. Priority has also been placed on ensuring
gender-sensitive, inclusive lesson plans to enable 100%
participation, and building

4. Students’ POV: Children from top schools ‘Pitch4Play’
|
|
Sportz Village's Pitch4Play, the successor to the 2024
Get Kids to Play Summit, puts the spotlight on children,
amplifying their voices on how schools can further
strengthen their PE programs. Conducted across 5
cities in 2025, Pitch4Play showcased some powerful,
innovative, student-driven ideas:
a. View technology not as a barrier, but as an enabler
of play: Inspire higher participation through
AR/VR-enhanced sports activities.
|
|
|
|
b. Mind & Motion Bootcamp: Position sports as a
catalyst to combat stress, screen-time fatigue and low activity.
c. S.T.E.P (Simple, Targeted, Effective Practices) framework: Reduce bias and improve inclusion
by having more female coaches, creating safe play spaces, providing more match play
experience and recognition for girls.
d. Community-driven re-designing of play spaces: Collaborate with residents, NGOs and
municipalities to set up safe play spaces with smart lighting and CCTVs.
e. ‘Sports360’, develop a culture of multi-sport exposure: Introduce recess sports relays with
rotating mini-stations during P.E. periods and organise sports discovery festivals to encourage
curiosity-led play.
f. Integrate sports with academics: Joint academic & sports report card to track fitness and
academic grades with equal rigour. Celebrate students who perform well in both sports and
academics.
g. Active learning blocks and movement breaks during classes: Include quick brain gym,
stretching and exercise routine during classes.
